Acute Ward Block

Chesterfield Royal Hospital

Colourful glass exterior of Acute Ward Block, with reflections of buildings in the windows.

Visitors to the Acute Ward previously travelled down a glass corridor, which gave an undesirable direct line of sight into patients’ rooms.

Working in collaboration with architects the Manser Practice, we installed multicoloured glass fins, positioned at perpendicular intervals. This design solution grants patients privacy, while at the same time retaining the benefits of a bright, naturally lit corridor.

Chesterfield Royal Hospital is situated in the beautiful landscape of Derbyshire. We pulled inspiration from the local countryside into the ward, drawing on local flora & fauna, which also fed into our colour palette.
